Placer County Urgently Recruiting Election Aides to Serve in Upcoming Primary

Feb 06, 2024 02:25PM ● By Placer County Elections Office News Release

AUBURN, CA - The March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election is quickly approaching, and the Placer County Elections Office is urgently seeking members of the community to serve at their local vote centers during the in-person election period.

With their recent adoption of the Voter's Choice Act election model, the Elections Office now provides multiple days of in-person voting at 29 vote centers located throughout the county. Seven of these vote centers will be open for 11 days (including Election Day), beginning Feb. 24, with the remaining 22 locations open for four days (including Election Day), beginning March 2.

Expanding in-person voting opportunities in this way also requires an adjustment to how vote centers are staffed. Rather than "volunteers" who were offered a small stipend for their service on Election Day, those who are selected to work elections are now hired on as county employees who earn an hourly wage for a certain number of consecutive days, depending on the vote center they're assigned to. As in the past, paid training is provided to those who apply and are accepted.

"Working as an Elections Aide in Placer County puts you right on the front line of democracy," said Ryan Ronco, Placer County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters. "Not only do you experience first-hand how an election is conducted but you're an essential part of giving your community a voice, a say in how things are done in their towns and neighborhoods. What could be better than that?"
