We’re building a new Lions Club in Greater Sacramento centered around The Magic Yarn Project. This new Lions Club will help create beautiful, character-inspired yarn wigs for children. We are looking for people who want to make a real difference in the lives of children facing cancer and medical hair loss. 

This Lions Club will be a support base, helping the components come together for these needing wigs and face masks. It is a program that started in Alaska and has wildly taken off. It is a beautiful process; many can help with no experience needed. We can guide you and in doing so, the children receive more than just a wig or mask. They see HOPE. These aren't just wigs – they can give a child something to smile about and something that helps them feel more like themselves during this challenging time of their life. 

It takes a team to make that magic happen. You do NOT have to be a crocheter to participate. There are many ways to help including: crochet yarn base for the wigs, cut and prepare yarn, assemble and finish wigs, organize and prepare materials, help create different character styles, create custom-decorated envelopes, write encouraging messages for the children, help connect the project with local hospitals and organizations, help with community outreach and fundraising, or simply bring your time, ideas, talents and enthusiasm. 

There are 50-plus character-inspired styles, giving children choices and allowing their personalities to shine.

We know life is busy. Jobs. Families. School. Grandkids. Responsibilities. Everything that fills our calendars. That's why we're building a service club where you can contribute in the way that fits your life. You don't have to do everything. You don't have to know everything. And you don't have to commit every weekend.

Every contribution matters.

Service has a way of giving something back to the person who serves. You'll meet people who care about their community. You'll learn new skills. You'll make new friends. You'll have opportunities to serve locally and beyond. But most importantly, you'll know that something you helped create may have brought a moment of happiness to a child going through an incredibly difficult time.

Our goal is to bring together 30-plus people who want to build something special from the ground up. Young or young at heart.

Crocheter or non-crocheter. Creative, organized, outgoing, behind-the-scenes, community-minded—or simply someone who wants to help.

There is a place for you. This isn't about finding people who have extra time. It's about finding people who want to make the time they do have count.

We're forming a new Lions Club in Greater Sacramento dedicated to bringing the Magic Yarn Project AND OTHER meaningful service opportunities to our community. If you’ve ever thought, “I’d really like to do something that matters,” this could be your opportunity. Come help us bring the magic back in many children's lives. Be one of our first 30-plus founding members, get involved in helping these babies smile again. The heartfelt feeling of giving back is one of the richest rewards we can do in humanity. 

When we get enough people interested in obtaining more information, a community meeting will be established. No commitments. No pressure. Just seek additional information and answering any questions you may have. The meeting after that will be bringing in one of the area leaders from the Magic Yarn Project and hopefully get people started. 

Yes, there will be a cost of around $125 per person being a Lions Club member.
