AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Auburn State Theatre is excited to announce its first Día de los Muertos Ofrendas (Altars) Show featuring colorful displays created by artists and community members to honor loved ones and celebrate their lives. The exhibit will be on display at Auburn’s Carnegie Library community center from Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18.

Sponsored by a grant from BriarPatch Food Co-op, this show will familiarize visitors with ofrendas (altars) and the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Ofrenda displays will highlight the various ways in which people remember and pay tribute to their departed loved ones. Ofrendas are created to honor anyone who was important to you - ancestors, friends (and even pets) - and celebrate their lives, to remember who they were and to keep them in the memory of younger generations.

The show is free to the public (with donations gratefully accepted) and will be open for viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17, noon to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 and noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at Auburn’s Carnegie Library, 175 Almond Street, Auburn.
