STATELINE, NV (MPG) -
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is launching a new summer education series designed to help participants build the skills, knowledge and confidence to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail.

The Completing the Loop series includes a mix of educational talks, hands-on courses and backcountry trips that can be taken individually or as a progression toward completing the 174-mile Tahoe Rim Trail.

The series begins with a free Trail Talk, Completing the Loop: Hiking the TRT, on April 28 at the South Lake Tahoe Library, with a virtual offering scheduled for May. The talk will provide an overview of what it takes to plan and complete the TRT, including timing, logistics and preparation.

From there, participants can build backcountry preparedness through a Wilderness First Aid course on May 9–10, followed by Backpacking 101, a three-day, hands-on course taking place June 26–29. The series culminates with Taste of the TRT, a guided 4-day backpacking experience on the Tahoe Rim Trail that offers participants the opportunity to apply their skills on trail with support from TRTA staff and volunteer guides.

“This series is about meeting people where they’re at,” said TRTA Guided Programs Manager Fiona Pedrick. “Whether someone is brand new to backpacking or working toward a thru-hike, we want to provide clear entry points and a pathway to build confidence in the backcountry.”

Participants are encouraged to join one or more offerings depending on their experience level and goals.

Registration is now open for all programs. Learn more at tahoerimtrail.org.
