AUBURN, CA (MPG) - In 1931 Berlin, the Master of Ceremonies (Joel Grey) welcomes guests to the Kit Kat Klub with tongue firmly in cheek, to a place where “life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, and even the orchestra is beautiful.”
American Sally Bowles (Liza Minelli) performs at the nightclub and enjoys a bohemian lifestyle in the last days of the Weimar Republic, as the Nazi Party rises to power. Directed by Bob Fosse, the story blends flamboyant entertainment with serious political undertones, capturing the characters' desires to ignore the growing Nazi threat for personal pleasure.
Sponsored by Bill Heisch, “Cabaret” won eight Academy Awards including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Best Music. It also received numerous Golden Globe and BAFTA wins, recognizing its impact across acting, directing, and technical categories.
The film will screen at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors and kids 11 and under (includes $2 fee).
The Odd Fellows Lodge is located at 1226-1/2 Lincoln Way, Auburn CA.
