AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Placer County has extended the schedule for the former Lincoln Gun Ranges lead remediation project due to recent weather, following significant progress and successful lead cleanup at the site.
The project, located on the former Titan 1-A missile site on Oak Tree Lane in Lincoln, will continue in spring 2026, when conditions allow the original scope of work to continue safely and effectively.
Placer County contracted with Metals Treatment Technologies (MT2), a contractor specializing in environmental remediation, to address lead contamination left from decades of use as a pistol and skeet range. Although the ranges have been closed since 1999, firing lines, earthen berms and spent ammunition remained, leaving lead in the soil.
The project has achieved strong results to date. Remediation efforts have successfully excavated, screened and treated impacted soils.
More than 12 tons of recovered lead materials have been recycled appropriately. More than 400 truckloads of contaminated soil have been transported to hazardous waste facilities. The scope associated with the original base bid is approximately 85 percent complete, including full removal of the pistol range berm.
Air quality and stormwater protections continue to be closely monitored throughout the work by the county’s environmental consultant, Provost & Pritchard Consulting Group.
“The progress made so far is significant and noticeably apparent if you visit the site,” said General Services Deputy Director Paul Breckenridge. “Extending the schedule through the winter and taking the time to fully evaluate additional remediation needs is the responsible approach. Our priority remains protecting public health and ensuring this property is ready for potential future uses.”
Placer County General Services continues to analyze the scope of work for potential additional remediation needs.
