Ashley, a 20-year-old student, faced the challenge of balancing school and caring for her mom, who is bedbound due to advanced Parkinson’s. Despite these difficulties, Ashley was determined to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. That’s when Ashley reached out to the Latino Leadership Council for help. Her fridge was in poor condition, with mold growing inside that she couldn’t remove, adding unnecessary stress to an already demanding life. Understanding the severity of the issue, Latino Leadership Council staff provided the family with a new fridge.

Ashley’s mom, Mrs. Hernandez, expressed heartfelt thanks, saying, “We are so thankful to everyone at the Latino Leadership Council who made this possible.”

Ashley even added a personal touch to the new appliance after it arrived: “I want to thank the Latino Leadership Council organization for providing us with a new fridge. I even decorated it with some magnets and stickers.”

In addition to grant funds, Latino Leadership Council has also partnered with Placer Community Foundation to create the Dr. Reyes Ortega Scholarship Fund, which supports Latino Leadership Council's work and a scholarship program for the education of Latinx youth and young adults.

Elisa Herrera, executive director of Latino Leadership Council said, 

"We are deeply grateful to Placer Community Foundation and its donors for their generous funding, which has enabled us to support the Latino community with basic needs and beyond. We’ve even recognized that some clients required transportation to and from work, so we provided them with electric scooters and safety gear to ensure they could commute safely and efficiently. We are incredibly grateful to Placer Community Foundation for this support!"
