Roseville City Councilmember kicks off Supervisor Campaign
ROSEVILLE, CA (MPG) - Scott Alvord, a well-respected Roseville City Councilmember has announced his candidacy for the Placer County Board of Supervisors, District 2. Alvord has built a reputation as a very engaged councilmember who is approachable, responsive and well informed, making his campaign tagline “Talk to Scott” a natural fit.
Councilmember Alvord has served on the Roseville City Council since 2016. Due to term limits, he is currently serving his last term. “I was honored and truly humbled by the outpouring of requests over the holidays by residents and stakeholders throughout Placer County to enter the race for the District 2 Supervisor seat,” stated Alvord. Those requests and a bipartisan team of supporters helped firm up his decision to enter the race.
Alvord and his wife Karen live in West Roseville, where some of the most intensive development that Placer County has seen in the last 2 decades is taking place. He has heard from long-term residents of Roseville, Lincoln, and county rural areas that their issues have largely been ignored when compromises could have been made. “The county needs to work hand-in-hand with cities and rural communities to ensure that issues are heard, understood and addressed.”
Recently-retired Economic Development Director, Laura Matteoli-Wilke explains, “As a long-time small business owner and four-term chair of the Placer County Economic Development Board, Scott understands the needs of businesses and the planned growth, but is determined to keep Placer County’s rural and agricultural history intact. Scott has always been a strong proponent of providing affordable workforce housing, and Roseville has led the way in the county in this endeavor. I have watched Scott work with the business community and he is unique in how much he truly cares for our region’s economic vitality because of the quality of life it provides the residents.”
Alvord has been a consistent and steadfast public servant serving as president of the Downtown Roseville Merchants for nine years, president of the Westpark Neighborhood Association, past chair of the Placer County Air Pollution Control District, past chair of the Placer County Flood Control & Water Conservation District, vice chair of LAFCO, past chair of the Parks & Recreation Commission, and more.
Alvord holds an MBA degree from Sac State University, teaches as an adjunct business professor at William Jessup University, owns a 35-year business consulting company, and runs a business mastermind group. He has been the recipient of numerous accolades including “Favorite Local Business Person,” “Favorite Civic Leader,” and was a two-year finalist in Gallina’s “Business Person of the Year” award.
Alvord strongly supports issues around adequate housing and homeless issues. As the father of 7 children (via birth and adoption) and grandfather of 13, he has a vested interest in good schools, public safety, and a mix of housing where families can grow and thrive. And as both a father and son of police officers, he understands the value of public safety to ensure and preserve the highest quality of life.
