Placer County Speeds up Residential Solar System Permitting

Nov 06, 2015 12:00AM ● By Anonymous

Getting a permit for rooftop or ground-mount solar systems will be even easier in Placer County after the county board of supervisors approved a new, faster permitting process.

Before the new process was approved, acquiring a permit required more than one visit, but now, solar permits for systems below 10 kilowatts can be issued in person or approved via e-mail within one day.

“We’re huge supporters of renewable energy in Placer County, so we want to do everything we can to help our residents contribute to a sustainable energy future,” said Chief Building Official Tim Wegner.

Even though Placer County already functions within the state-mandated guidelines for solar system permitting, the introduction of this ordinance will make complying with the state mandate easier for residents. “The adoption of this ordinance is another great example of Placer County’s customer commitment,” Wegner said. Permits can be obtained online or at Placer County’s building services offices in Auburn and Tahoe City.
